17-year-old Victor Wembanyama, a current potential No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, signed a three-year contract with French EuroLeague team ASVEL Villeurbanne, the club announced.
“Victor is a unique player in the world, he’s the greatest prospect in French basketball over the past twenty years,” ASVEL president and former four-time NBA champion Tony Parker said, per the club. “He has everything to make a grat career and has the opportunity to be a future no. 1 pick in the NBA Draft. We’ll do everything to support his development, help his progress and help him achieve this goal.”
Wembanyama, currently standing at 7 ft. 2 (2.18 m.), is widely considered the top international prospect of his age. He spent the last two seasons with Nanterre and had assignments with Pole France in France’s Third Division.
In November, Wembanyama made his EuroCup debut, posting five points, four blocks and two assists in 17:29 minutes. He overall played 18 games in the French Jeep Elite League and averaged 6.8 points and 4.7 rebounds in 16.9 minutes.
